Yes, Buttercup is a he, and apparently is also gay with a leather daddy fetish (judging from his boyfriend). I think Sarah did it just to provide a stark counterpoint to Buttercup’s cuteness. It’s a little disturbing at first, but then it makes you appreciate Sarah’s strip all the more, because underneath the cute, almost-innocent humor, there lurks a dark and twisted side… which I mean as a compliment.
