Renovations

…And it really is true. Our new office belonged to a not so beloved German comedian whose show was cancelled after a short period. I’m sure his gag-writers are all doing fine though. I’m always very desperate when I think of German comedy, because…well, there isn’t really any good one. We’ve got a bunch of “comedians”, the most successful of them do jokes about women not being able to park cars and men not being able to listen to a conversation. It’s mostly very gender cliché-driven. Luckily, we’ve got a nice German version of “The Office” which of course is based on Ricky Gervais’ original show. German TV doesn’t risk that much when it comes to original fiction .

Well. luckily I do have other languages to chose from. :)

Sadly, the American version of “The Office” isn’t much better. It’s a sad state of affairs when the only original (and funny) comedy is coming out of a country that used to be notorious for low production value.
Keep up the great work. Your strips just keep getting better.

I’m swedish (which makes it kind of sad that i can’t read your strips in german) and I recognize what you are talking about. It’s kind of “gender stereotype all the way” here to. And most comedians are male. There are some good ones to, but mostly bad ones.
But you are extreamly funny. keep it up!

    Seriously?! Madamé, you disappoint me!

    Volker Pispers, Urban Priol, Serdar Somuncu, Gerhard Polt, Helge Schneider, Jochen Malmsheimer in Germany;

Alfred Dorfer, Michael Niavarani, Alfons Rädl, Lukas Resetarits, fricken JOSEF HADER in Austria! Admittably, you will not understand half of the austrian ones but come ON!

None of them at bullshit Mario Barth quality either. Go Research. NAO!

Ooookay, maybe I should have explained myself better. I do like most of the comedians you mentioned in your post, especially the Switch Reloaded guys and Josef Hader. But he’s Austrian (like you said) and I think that the Austrian film production did a very brilliant job of filming the “Brenner” movies with him. They didn’t rely on their charismatic protagonist, but created movies which a VERY Austrian and both very original. Their Brenner moves showed more enthusiasm than most German comedies of the last years.
And that’s what I intended to say. There are very few good German fictional comedies or sitcomcs and original concepts.
We do have some good more reputable/political comedians, but they wil never have such a broad audience as the ones who do jokes about women buying to many shoes.
Or in other words: As long as Mario Barth will fill the stadiums with his stupid jokes, I’m not happy. :)

I’m with you regarding Pispers and the others but as Sarah rightly said, they are not comedians. You could of course argue in Helge Schneiders case but then again, he doesn’t fit in anywhere. Just genius. Austrians I really just know Dorfer, Resetaris and of course Hader, but are they comedians? Hmm, maybe I just check out Pastewka.

  4. Vogerl.at says:

Bastian Pastewka when talking about high quality comedy shows too, not just Christoph Maria Herbst, the whole menagerie of Switch Reloaded!

  5. Vogerl.at says:

You got me there, some of them are .. Kabarettists ( herro, english language, I do gut, ja?), that’s why I listed them as “comedians”; lack of word >_>

Don’t forget: Mario Barth is effectively dead, speaking PR-wise:)

“Was macht der? Diskredediert seine Frau vor einem Millionenpublikum! Der soll sich nicht über sie lustig machen, der soll sie ordentlich ficken!” – Serder Somuncu in “Der Hassprediger liest Bild” – Hatemonger reads crappy but very successful, well-known tabloid
