The Whole Truth

There you go, now we all know what’s behind Ngumbe’s basic grumpiness… :D

The Smurfs! They are one of my earliest memories of comic-reading, along with Tintin, Lucky Luke, Asterix and Batman, really. ;) Haven’t read them in a long time… What about you, dear readers? Any of you read them as a child?

You have a good week out there, keep on reading comics and see you in the funny papers! Joerg

We have to know more about Ngumbe and his love of smurfs!

    • Joe says:

Greg! Nice to have you back here. Hope you are doing well. – I have to admit I didn’t have a clue about this until now. Who would’ve thought…

Tintin and Asterix comics have been my favorites since I was young. Have you seen the new Tintin movie yet? It is really good! Your comics are great too!

    • Laburrini says:

@Doltean: Yay, I read quite a lot Asterix as a kid. I could never get into Tintin though. I don’t know, I guess I was always more into character-driven stories and I couldn’t identify with Tintin. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but @Joe.Timberwolf also enjoyed it very much!

I was introduced to “Tintin” in the mid-1960s through a gift subscription to the now-defunct “Children’s Digest”. (I also got to read a few of the stories in comic-book format at a bookstore that I practically lived in in Cleveland Heights, OH in the early 1970s. I can’t wait to see the new movie!) I also read a few of the “Asterix” stories at that same bookstore, but never got to read any of the “Lucky Luke”s. (I only knew of him through the ads in the back of the “Tintin” and “Asterix” books.) I read a good bit of Batman, of course (show me a pre-/early-teen boy who didn’t!) but I preferred Iron Man (he’s part of the reason that I’m such a tech-geek today) and DC’s Horror comics.

I never had the chance to get into comics because nowhere near I lived selled them, and still doesn’t today. I was much more into my cartoons, and I still am today, though of course I read several webcomics ;)

Besides Donald Duck (Aku Ankka in Finnish, the one and only comic experience shared by almost all Finnish kids – and many adults, too. Subscribed it for years and read it every wednesday. Carl Barks are the classics and Don Rosa are the best, but also comics by Danish and Finnish rank-and-filer artists were enjoyable. Italian Donald Duck stories published in Finnish as paperbacks were a different story.) I’ve read Asterix too. Never got into Tintin either, good to know that I wasn’t the only one! Lucky Lukes were probably also available but never my cup of tea. I preferred for example Yoko Tsuno, Gaston Lagaffe (Niilo Pielinen), Spirou et Fantasio and Quick & Flupke. These were available plentifully at the library bus that visited our neighbourhood and the nearest library a couple of kilometers further. <3

The Smurfs were a cartoon on television (childrens saturday mornings) and, quite odd enough, some sort of a cover band that sang (to my horror, still do) in The chipmunks style. Never knew they were a comic, too. Everyday one learns something new. :)

Spiderman was my comic back in the day. My sister swiped all my old ones though. :-( But, the question I have is; Does “Geeze Louise” even rhyme in German?

    • joe.timberwolf says:

Oh, “Geez” or “Geeze Louise” is different in the German version of this strip. It’s something like “Gee, man!” I just liked “Geez Louise” better.

  7. DHJones says:

man well’s hope the smurfs don’t mistake el fungo to make a house

    • joe.timberwolf says:

OMG, DHJones, you’re totally right! Maybe that is why Ngumbe is so amused because he pictures something like that. Let’s hope not…
