Sorry guys, I’m just to tired for a long blog entry. This was a tough weekend (I went to a manga con!)…

I think everything which could be said about Avatar has already been said.
Although…

Of course I couldn’t avoid seeing it and I’m not regretting it. My opinion about it correspond to the little elephant’s one and I’m okay with it.
Only a couple of days later I watched District 9 and was a bit surprised how similar the stories were (they even both had a Mecha fight at the end ). I have to say that I felt much more involved with the characters in District 9 and I really couldn’t foresee the ending (contrary to Avatar).
That surely is just my opinion, but I thought this was an interesting example on how differently two stories can be told which are practically the same.
Just my 50 cents…:)

Why do I always feel the need to justify myself when one of my strips doesn’t have a superhilarious punchline?
I guess it’s because I’m afraid to spoil people’s expectations, BUT…
Well, “Life Ain’t No Pony Farm”. I, myself like stories (in movies, books, even songs) which aren’t just about ONE side of the emotional barometer. Which aren’t just a “comedy” or a “drama”. Because life is both. In most cases…
And Ngumbe’s life sucks right now.:(

Argh, did I mention how hard it is for me to share my deeeeeep (yawn) thoughts in another language?
Or maybe this is just a sorry excuse for not being able to express myself in words. I guess, that’s why I’d rather like to draw.:)

As I said, you can’t trust meer kats! They might look all cuddly too you, but who knows what they’re planning all night in their little underground homes…

What else is there? Oh, well, I’m just rediscovering my secret nerd passion for old adventure games. After having played “Beneath A Steel Sky” and “Indiana Jones 3″, I’m ready for “Indiana Jones And The Fate Of Atlantis” or maybe “Gabriel Knight“! Man, how I LOVED these games when I was a teen. Maybe the graphics are totally out of date. Yes, the gameplay might be too. But somewhat these games had a very engaging story, a tense atmosphere and…*Sigh* Maybe I’m just nostalgic…:)

Yay, well you gotta know the meerkats are kind of the symbol for the Cologne zoo. Once a zoo guide explained that the meerkats “install” two watchmen which are looking out for the security of the others. So, when they detect a plane or a bird flying over their enclosure, they raise an alarm and all of the other meerkats hide in their little earthholes… Well, you can say, that they’re vigilant!

So. What else is new? Oh yes, there’s a little preview of the cover for the upcoming english minicomic.:)

due to my upcoming visit to the UK Mini&Webcomics Thing AND Stumptown Comics Fest in Portland I decided to print a little minicomic containing the first 40 something strips.
It’s really just 24 pages and aimed to the people who don’t know the webcomic at all.
Plus, it’s tiny! It’s going to be formatted in 14,8 x 14,8 cm (that’s, uhm 5,82 inches?).
That’s why I decided to do a less detailed, but very straight-to-the-point cover.

Those amongst you who love the Beatles might slightly recognize a similarity to a certain LP cover!…

Well, my little confettis!
Since I tried to avoid the carnevalesque goings- on in my city during the weekend, I thought I could as well make a double- strip!
It’s been a long time since I did one and this was a special KEY SCENE anyway!
In the case you don’t know (and there’s really no reason you SHOULD know this), there’s a Rheinlandian specialty called “Sauerbraten” which is traditionally made of…horse meat!
Not to mention, I never tried it and I never will!!! I won’t risk Buttercup never speaking to me again…Not that he ever does…:)

Dear readers from all over the world!
You cannot know this, but today everybody in my city is going CRAZY!
It’s the first day of the 6-day long celebration of CARNIVAL in Cologne.
That means that practically the whole town is totally out of control. The streets are full with people wearing costumes, singing songs in “Kölsch” (the Cologne dialect) and, uhm getting pretty drunk.
This shaky video gives a good impression on how things look if I (would)go outside.

On Monday there’s a big parade in the city where they throw candy (“Kamelle”) from the wagons.

Every year there the local carnival clubs also elect their special carnival cabinet consisting of a farmer, a prince and a virgin.
The picture below is from 2007 and the guy (it’s always a guy) representing the “virgin” is my dentist. This always makes me laugh when I’m there.

Apart from that I’m not such a big fan of celebrating carnival myself. Too many drunken men in horrible clown costumes trying to give you a kiss… That’s, uhm, just not my idea of fun…

But, anyhow, it’s always worth to see for tourists
